Present distribution: Southern Sudan (Swamps of Bahr-el-Gebel, Bahr-el-Ghasal, Sobat, Pibor), south-west Ethiopia, (Gambela district, the rivers Balo and Ghila).
Behaviour: Preferred habitat: swamps and flooded marshes; active at twilight and at night; form herds of up to several thousand. For other habits, see Wasserbock

Remarks: Very little is known about their behaviour; more information needed. The destruction of habitat continues and this may lead to a continuous decrease in population. Only the males carry horns.
